Ahmed Basiony was born in 1978 in Cairo. He was shot and killed on January 28, 2011, by the police during the first week of the Egyptian uprising. He taught at the Art Education College at Helwan University and took part in exhibitions such as “Why Not?” (2010), “Live100” (2009–10), “The Body Invisible Presents” (2009), and “Occidentalism” (2007). In 2011, he represented Egypt posthumously at the Biennale di Venezia.
