Cornelius  Castoriadis,

Cornelius Castoriadis (1922–1997) was a French philosopher of Greek origin. Born in Istanbul, he studied law and economics in Athens during the German occupation. He left Greece in 1945 to further study in France where he since lived. Renowned as the “Philosopher of Autonomy,” he was also an economist, psychoanalyst, political activist. He was co-founder of the Socialisme ou Barbarie group (1948–1967) and has authored several books. Among the English translations: A Society Adrift (2010), Figures of the Thinkable (2007), World in Fragments (1997), The Imaginary Institution of Society (1987), and Crossroads in the Labyrinth (1984).
