John Menick was born in 1976 in White Plains, New York. He makes video and audio works, as well as writing essays and fiction. These works are often populated by wandering detectives, duplicitous storytellers, homeless documentarians, mad travelers, and institutionalized cinephiles. He usually lives in Brooklyn and sometimes teaches at the Cooper Union, New York.
