Jolyon Leslie, born in 1956 in South Africa, has worked extensively in post-disaster and post-war reconstruction in the Middle East and Asia. He has lived in Kabul since the 1980s, working on UN reconstruction projects. Between 2004 and 2010 he managed the program of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in Afghanistan. In 2004, he published Afghanistan: The Mirage of Peace and is currently working on a book about the city of Kabul.
