Julie Mehretu was born in 1970 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and lives in New York. She has had solo exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum, New York (2010), the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek (2007), and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2003), and has participated in the Biennale of Sydney (2006), the Carnegie International (2004), the Bienal de São Paulo (2004), and the Whitney Biennial (2004). She has received a MacArthur Fellowship (2005).
