Margaret Preston,

Margaret Preston was born in 1875 in Adelaide, Australia, and died in 1963 in Sydney. Her work was influenced by European painting, Japanese ukiyo-e, and an Australian Indigenous aesthetic, and she was an active contributor to various journals promoting her philosophy of a national art. A major retrospective was held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney (2005).
