Maria Martins,

Maria Martins was born in 1894 in Campanha, Brazil, lived in South America, Europe, Asia, and the U.S., and died in 1973 in Rio de Janeiro. A sculptor, engraver, designer, and writer, Martins became a member of the Surrealist group during the 1940s, exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions, and participated several times in the Bienal de São Paulo, which she helped to found in 1950.
