Born 1952 in Dehradun, India, Vandana Shiva is a physicist, environmental activist, and eco feminist, based in Delhi. She has authored more than twenty books on topics of ecology, biodiversity, biopolitics, and globalization, and hundreds of papers in leading scientific journals. She received her Ph.D. in Quantum Theory from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, in 1978, and participated in the nonviolent Chipko movement in India during the 1970s. She is board member of the International Forum on Globalization and founder of Navdanya International. Recent books include Staying Alive (2010) and Soil Not Oil (2008).
