This interview was conducted under the auspices of the first major European retrospective of Anna Maria Maiolino at Fundaciò Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona (October 15, 2010 – January 16, 2011). The artist’s interlocutor is the curator of the exhibition and the editor of its catalog.

“Helena Tatay: You were born in Calabria, Italy, in 1942. At the age of twelve, your family emigrated to Venezuela, and a few years later to Brazil. Can you tell me about the time when you first arrived in Brazil?
