Creative Destruction / Destructive Creation

While dealing with the relationship between the making and the destruction of art, Dario Gamboni’s keynote lecture also resonates with the current state of affairs in politics and the economy. The motives of vandalism directed against works of art may vary from political, theological, aesthetic to pathological, and are not devoid of meaning. Having worked extensively on the topic, tracing destruction and iconoclasm in art from the French Revolution to today, Gamboni shows that some acts of destruction are in fact acts of creation.

This Keynote Lecture is supported by the Universität Kassel.
