Constant is a non-profit association, an interdisciplinary arts-lab based and active in Brussels since 1997.
Constant works in-between media and art and is interested in the culture and ethics of the World Wide Web. The artistic practice of Constant is inspired by the way that technological infrastructures, data-exchange and software determine our daily life. Free software, copyright alternatives and (cyber)feminism are important threads running through the activities of Constant.
Nicolas Malevé (Brussels,1969) is an artist, software programmer and data activist. His current research work is focused on cartography, information structures, metadata and the means to visually represent them. Nicolas is an active member of Constant since 1998. He lives and works in Barcelona and Brussels.
Michael Murtaugh (Champaign,Illinois,1972), automatist.org, designs and researches community databases, interactive documentary, and tools for new forms of reading and writing online. He teaches in the Master of Media Design and Communication programme at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. He was part of Glorianna Davenport's Interactive Cinema group (1994-1996) at the MIT Media Lab. He lives in Brussels.
With Constant, Michael and Nicolas are currently working on Active Archives, a platform for re-use of digital material through metadata, vocabularies, and taxonomies.
