Ada Augusta Lovelace, daughter of the poet Lord Byron, was born in 1815 in London and died there in 1852. She was a writer with a deep interest in mathematics and is best known for her work on Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, a mechanical general-purpose computer. Her notations include an algorithm that is regarded as the first function generated by a machine. Therefore she is often referred to as the world’s first computer programmer.
