Bani Abidi was born in 1971 in Karachi, Pakistan, and lives in New Delhi and Karachi. She has participated in the Biennale de Lyon (2009), the Gwangju Biennale (2008), and the Fukuoka Triennale (2005). Solo exhibitions include the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead (2011), Green Cardamom, London (2010), and Project 88, Mumbai (2010). Abidi is an artist-in-residence at the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program 2011–12.
