Julio González was born in 1876 in Barcelona and died in 1942 in Arcueil, near Paris. He is internationally known for his iron sculptures. González worked with Picasso and Brancusi and exhibited in 1931 with the Surrealist artists in Paris. His work has been shown at documenta 1, 2, and 3 (1955, 1959, 1964) and more recently at the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2007), and the Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid (2009).
