Karen Barad, born in 1956, is Professor of Feminist Studies, Philosophy, and History of Consciousness at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and earned a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, with a research emphasis in quantum field theory. She is the author of Meeting the Universe Halfway: Quantum Physics and the Entanglement of Matter and Meaning (2007).
