A Public Misery Message: A Temporary Monument to Global Economic Inequality

Critical Art Ensemble’s A Public Misery Message: A Temporary Monument to Global Economic Inequality, is a project that takes as its starting point a proportional scale diagram of relative wealth based on population quintiles on a scale of 1 cm:100 USD. The graph points are materialized in the form of a one-meter deep hole, a twelve-meter high banner, and a helicopter flying up to 150 meters (representing the top one percent of the world’s wealth) that visitors can ride. The event takes place on June 8, 2012, one of the preview days of dOCUMENTA (13). Tickets are available by a lottery as well as through an exclusive pre-ordering system. 300 seats are available in total.
