Chimerizations and Speculative Solutions

The sound performance Chimerizations brings to life the sound work Chimerization created by Florian Hecker for dOCUMENTA (13). Recitations of an experimental libretto by Reza Negarestani are dramatized using a “chimerization” process that swaps, trades, and extrapolates different qualities embedded within the time structures of each sound. This approach attempts to move the realm of sound beyond the transformational and compositional paradigm of metric reasoning. Three versions in English, German, and Farsi are available to stream and download from documenta’s website with a text introducing the work.
The performance of Chimerizations is complemented by Speculative Solution, which brings together Hecker’s sonic practice and psychoacoustic experimentation with philosopher Quentin Meillassoux’s concept of “hyperchaos,” the absolute contingency of the laws of nature. Ranging from extreme stasis to the most dynamic intensities, it develops a series of micro-chronics and sequences of auditory contingencies, crisp dramatisations of what Meillassoux calls “extra-science worlds” in his essay “Metaphysics and Extro-Science Fiction.”
The performances take place in the context of the conference On Seeds and Multispecies Co-Evolution: Disowning Life, and as opening and closing events.
