Durs Grünbein was born in 1962 in Dresden and lives in Berlin. He is Professor of Poetics and Aesthetics at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Recent books published in English are The Vocation of Poetry (2011), Descartes’ Devil: Three Meditations (2010 [2008]), The Bars of Atlantic: Selected Essays (2010 [2009]), and Ashes for Breakfast: Selected Poems (2005). He has received numerous awards, such as the Georg- Büchner-Preis (1995).
