Gunnar Richter, born in 1953 in Hamburg, studied history, politics, and art at Kassel University and is co-founder and Director of the Breitenau Memorial Museum in Guxhagen, close to Kassel. Richter was awarded a doctorate for his study about the labor education camp Breitenau and he has published regularly, among other books, Breitenau—Zur Geschichte eines nationalsozialistischen Konzentrations- und Arbeitserziehungslagers (1993).
