Born in 1940 in Arkansas, Jimmie Durham is an artist, activist, and writer living in Europe. He has been involved with the American Indian Movement and served as their representative to the United Nations. He has participated in many exhibitions such as documenta 9 (1992) and the Biennale di Venezia (2005, 2003, 2001, 1999). His writings have been published in various journals such as Artforum, Third Text and Black Scholar.
