Sonallah Ibrahim is an Egyptian novelist who was born in 1937 in Cairo. His leftist views are expressed rather directly in his work, and he was imprisoned for political issues in the 1960s. This period of life is featured in his books The Smell of It (1964) and The Diary of the Oasis (2005). His works include Ice (2011), Stealth (2010), Zaat (2004), and The Committee (2004).
