100 Notizen – 100 Gedanken / 100 Notes – 100 Thoughts, presentation of dOCUMENTA (13) notebooks in association with Kadist Art Foundation at Hôtel du Grand Veneur, Paris, September 24, 2011, 7 pm

100 Notes – 100 Thoughts. Now available: The second round of 16 notebooks in both printed and e-book editions.

The writing of a notebook is a form of therapy.

What kind of writing is a note, what kind of discourse can emerge between chance and disparity? What picture of knowledge does a note construct, and what does it say about intelligence? Can notes, this relatively undifferentiated matter, renew and open possibilities for art and theory? Can a note, the embodiment of “a life” – the life behind the hand that wrote it – invent a form of consciousness that is prior to, and irreducible to the person? Can the space, time, and writing, rehearsed by notes, be a form of pre-reflexive, impersonal consciousness?

Following an affective structure, the note is an occasion to enact the meaning of a “phenomenon” in a fragmentary and incomplete manner, in the moment we are thinking of it. It is a process that makes evaluation possible, and the unity of life and thought: one step for life, and one step for thought, dancing together. Thought could un-learn from life how to cease being a censor, and how to start forgetting, measuring itself against life, under hypnosis, for example.

Introduced by Sandra Terdjman, Program Director of Kadist Art Foundation, Chus Martínez, Head of Department, Member of Core Agent Group for dOCUMENTA (13) and Raimundas Malašauskas, Agent for dOCUMENTA (13), will discuss committing ourselves to active forms of thinking on the perspectives of futurity with Alejandro Jodorowsky, author of notebook no. 14, in the series 100 Notes – 100 Thoughts. www.kadist.org
