The Keynote Lectures

The Keynote Lectures make up an undisciplined series of presentations throughout the duration of dOCUMENTA (13). They deal with subjects as diverse as the definition of cosmopolitanism; the signs used in the occupation of Wall Street; street occupation in general; African studies, art history and political consciousness; literature; magic and narratology; collapse and destruction in art; gender and the memory of art history; the time of cells and art; quantum reality and reality in thinking; how bacteria affect life; seeds and activism; and how to reinvent critical thinking through the poetic word.

The program folds together ideas, principles, and themes present in the exhibition, connecting conventionally distant disciplines and arguments through an understanding of their relationship with art. Based less on a desire for explanation than on shared interests and a spirit of inquiry, The Keynote Lectures aim to create linkages between different knowledges through the faculty of imagination.
