Thunderclap

Accompanying her multi-layered installation Pageant Roll Thunderclap at the Hauptbahnhof Kassel, Jessica Warboys’ performance Thunderclap revolves around the Surrealist dancer and artist Hélène Vanel, who briefly collaborated with the Surrealists, performing her notorious L’ Acte Manqué at the opening night of the 1938 “Exposition du Surréalisme” in Paris. Warboys’ performance, which takes place twice during the first days of dOCUMENTA (13) under a willow tree in Karlsaue park, explores Vanel’s biography and attempts to reconnect her personal history with the present through music, dance, props, and poetry.
