Untitled Non-productive Activities

Abraham Cruzvillegas’ project for dOCUMENTA (13) consists of a series of “non-productive activities” that first began at a Paris airport in 2011. These actions—whose form and content are defined by an instrument developed by the artist—occur before, during, and even after the time of the exhibition in Kassel. Since there is no calendar, visitors can not know in advance when and where an activity will take place, but these non-audience based actions in the public space leave room for occasional visitors to appear as witnesses. The people, other animals and things that become entangled in them by chance could be considered as the material of Cruzvillegas’ work.
