Xavier Le Roy studied biochemistry at the University of Montpellier and trained as a molecular biologist. Later, in 1988 he began his work with dancer Véronique Larcher, which was followed by collaborations with with dancers Ruth Barnes and Anne Koren in 1990. Between 1991 and 1995 Le Roy worked with the “Compagnie de l’Alambic,” Paris (choreographer Christian Bourrigault). Through these interactions, Le Roy developed an approach to choreography and dance that fundementally questions the conventions of the field through particpatory experiments with the audience and their role.
