Francis Alÿs, born in 1959 in Antwerp, lives in Mexico City. He has had numerous solo exhibitions, including MoMA, New York (2011), Tate Modern, London (2010), Wiels, Brussels, (2010), Schaulager, Basel (2006), the Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin (2004), and the Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid (2002). Alÿs has participated in many biennials, including the Biennale di Venezia (2007, 2001, 1999) and the Bienal de São Paulo (2010, 1998).
